Conjugation of Modal Verbs

Modal verbs express necessity, ability, or desire. Here is their present tense conjugation:
1. morati (must / to have to):
ja moram, ti moraš, on/ona/ono mora
mi moramo, vi morate, oni/one/ona moraju
2. moći (can / to be able to):
ja mogu, ti možeš, on/ona/ono može
mi možemo, vi možete, oni/one/ona mogu
3. htjeti (want / will):
ja hoću (or short ću), ti hoćeš (ćeš), on/ona/ono hoće (će)
mi hoćemo (ćemo), vi hoćete (ćete), oni/one/ona hoće (će)
Negative: neću, nećeš, neće, nećemo, nećete, neće.

Sentence Structure with Modal Verbs

In Croatian, a modal verb is directly followed by the infinitive form of the main verb (infinitive ends in -ti or -ći):
Moram raditi danas. (I must work today.)
Možemo ići kući. (We can go home.)
Neću učiti navečer. (I don't want to study in the evening.)
Asking questions:
Možeš li pomoći? (Can you help?)
Što moraš kupiti? (What do you have to buy?)
